9 June 2011 - We have been advised as follows - The Mercury Bay Open Competition is planned to run this weekend on Saturday 11th June. It could be marginal with visibility anywhere between 4-10 metres. Vis was OK today (Thursday) It is NW on Saturday and with no swell we should get the dive in!

Important Update
Mercury Bay Open postponed until next weekend, 11th June. Will announce with certainty next Thursday night, 9th. If the 11th June is unsuitable then the event will be postponed again to run on the 10th December .
A forecasted blow is coming this weekend and although will be all over by Monday there will still be a swell of 1.5m and viz will be real crap! Currently it looks like it will settle for next week.

La Nina has played havoc with diving and fishing in general and their recent weather patterns make it hard to predict weather for a particular day.

“Soooo ...what we are going to do this year is run the competition on the best of the three days available over that long weekend with the decision on which day being made on Thursday 2nd June.

The TARGET DAY is still Sunday 5th June, but with fickle weather we will keep both Saturday and Monday as back-up days.
