New Zealand Species Information
As a recreational fisher you need to be aware that the daily bag limit and minimum size for some fish varies between different regions in NZ. Most of NZ has a combined daily bag limit of 20 fish. The Southern region however has a combined daily bag limit of 30 fish. In addition to different bag limits there are also differences in minimum sizes of fish for some regions. If in doubt, you should check with the Ministry of Fisheries in the region.
Note: Most New Zealand Spearfishermen choose to spear far fewer fish than the number legally allowed.
