New Zealand Spearfishing Records Now Digital

Claiming a national spearfishing record just got a whole lot easier. The SNZ Records system is fully online — no paper forms, no emailing attachments, no waiting (unless you want to!).

To submit your claim just fill out the online application, upload all of the required photos and hit submit. Your claim lands instantly with the SNZ Records Keeper — complete with every measurement, witness detail, and photo attached. Every record, at your fingertips.

Browse the full list of New Zealand spearfishing records by species, division, and weight. Open, Women’s, and Junior records are all there — with photos where they exist and more being added all the time. Search by species or diver, sort by weight, and tap any photo to view it full screen.

A fair and transparent process. Submitted claims are reviewed by the Records Keeper as they always have been, and, once validated, published with a provisional status for 30 days — giving the community a window to raise any questions before the record is formally ratified. You’ll be kept in the loop at every step.

Recognition beyond records. Outstanding catches, say a Mahimahi at Stewart Island, can be nominated for a Meritorious Fish award. Because sometimes the most memorable catch isn’t the heaviest one. All record fish are automatically considered for this award too.
